I started my summer project today. A podcast through WFMU, The Brother Lucy Podshow, which will feature a full live concert every week. I'm trying to track down (and get permission for!) some downtown type sets from the 80s or so, but I'm also going to be sending out some newer things like ...

Like The Fiery Furnaces. Totally rock. I saw them at (le) Poisson Rouge a couple weeks ago, and have had the songs off the new record pounding through my head all week. Like for seriously. Like, I've been waking up with "Charmaine Champagne" pounding through my head.

Man, this blog is not in any order or anything. Like, I should be saying Ecstasy Mule will be all doing the Make Music New York this Sunday, 7:30, Ring Garden, Dyckman and Broadway, Manhattan. And I should totally be saying Vacant (my duo with Jen Mesch who hails from Empire, Michigan and how awesome a name for a town is that?) will be at Temple M July 5. Scroll down for that stuff. I already talked about it. I mean, scroll down if you want.

And scroll down for free stuff, like the short track "A Difficult Fortnight" and the long track "A Day in the Night." Those are both down below here too. I didn't mean for them to both have "night" in the name. I do like nighttime, tho.

And I've already posted about my solo guitar CD 24b as well. So why am I writing now? Pretty much because Squidco scanned the cover, or one of the covers, so I stole the image to put up here.

By the way, I made the covers from a copy of the 1976 military defense budget hearings. People ask about the cover more often than they ask about why the guitar is all distorted and messed up sounding.

So yeah, you can get the CD, CD-R, really, with a cover similar to the one pictured here, from Squidco or Downtown Music Gallery. Or from me, one way or another. Brucey at DMG wrote a nice review about my little record, too. Nepotism is a friend of mine.

Home Tapes is Killing Music

Here's some things about tapes.

I made a track for Dictaphonia Volume 2, a micro- cassette compilation on HalTapes. All submissions were recorded and submitted on microcassette. For "A Difficult Fortnight" I put my recorder inside the bell of my grandfather's alto saxophone and played as quietly as I could. The BBC news was on the radio outside the horn.

I'm going to make my track available here for a week. OK?

Secondly, Ecstasy Mule is all but poised to release racecar, a 30-minute electronic piece in two parts. It will be a limited edition of 50 or so cassette tapes. We recorded it, we just have to make them.

And lastly, I'm very excited to be working on a cassette release for I Think Like Art Critics Talk. I have some very big ambient punk ideas for this. It will come out in April, 2010.

More About Writing About Writing About Music

This review of Purple Rain comes courtesy my WFMU brother Tony C. He says he didn't write it, though.

This album from Prince was very popular during the mid 1980's. Which sold out concerts time in and time out. during that time Shiela E. would open up for him. During my first marriage, she loved Prince. She had all of his albums. Even the movie Purple Rain she owned.

However, Prince voice sounded terrible. It was to high and squeaking as though in pain and agony. His lyrics and story concerning Purple Rain is completely "Lame". I was forced to go to this concert, with my ex-wife, and I literately fell asleep it was so boring. And the concert shirt that she own looked demon possessed. The only positive note that he can play guitar, but it does not replace the other negatives that I indicated in this paragraph.

As so I do not recommend this album to anyone.

It got the rating that it deserves..... .5 but really deserves a -1000.

Writing About Architecture is Like Dancing Without Music

But first. It's funny. You know? Are writers supposed to self- promote? These things confuse me.

I'm a better writer than I am a musician. I know that. But I almost never send out emails saying "Hey, I have an article published." And I never ever would have thought to start a blog about my writing. Writing about writing is like writing about writing.

In other words, I all the time get emails from people saying "come to my gig." I never see any saying "buy this magazine." So, yeah, that's the way self-pr goes, I guess.

But Bora Yoon, for example, she's supercool. She does amazing, beautiful music, and I know she looks at this because she left a comment before. I wrote a piece about her for The Wire. So there. Go buy The Wire.

On June 2 I'll be playing with Philip Gayle at the Yippie Cafe. Also Blaise Siwula and Sten Hostfalt and the killer Sympathy for Lady Vengence. We're first, at 8. 9 Bleeker St.

June 7, I'm organizing with the awesome Marie Evelyn the Tin Can Telewalk in Carroll Gardens as a part of Issue Project Room's Soundwalk day. You should participate.

June 21 Ecstasy Mule is playing at the Ring Garden at Dyckman and Broadway in Inwood as a part of Make Music New York. Stuff all day all over and stuff. We will be scaring horses.

And on July 5, the rockstar dancer Jennifer Mesch and I will perform "Vacant" at Temple M in Harlem. 555 W. 141ST Street (just off Broadway). 6:30 SHARP! Miguel Frasconi and Joshua Convey are also performing, all part of the Outwood at Temple M extravaganza.

Dang. OK. I'm exhausted now.

There's some stuff I'm excited about, but I'm not ready to type about it yet. But I was talking to a friend about Nelson and his amazing Electric Chaircuts, and went looking for the vid of my performance with him and thought I'd posted it and here I hadn't so here it is.
